Posted 5 years agoRight now, you’re looking at what is quite possibly the best-looking car Audi produces. The gorgeous S7 Sportback is a stealthy, spacious high-performance 4-door coupe with Grand Tourer tendencies that’s been very recently updated for 2020.
Audi hasn’t taken it easy with this update either. It’s not a question of tweaking or tuning but rather drastically overhauling what the S7 is – its character, its role within the Audi range and what it can offer to its customers. Perhaps the most decisive action taken by the engineers at Audi was to switch not just the engine size, but also its fuel source. Gone is the old petrol V8, replaced now instead with a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 diesel that also benefits from mild-hybrid engine technology and a form of electronic supercharging. It’s a complex powerplant that, together with a Tiptronic automatic gearboxes, all comes together to provide the driver with rapid acceleration transitioning to effortless power at any speed.
As the S7 Sportback sits between the standard A7 and the extra spicy RS7 in the range it doesn’t need to be about pure speed. Audi’s ‘S’ models always occupy a healthy middle ground, and the updated S7 helps differentiate this car further as a product away from the RS7. The objective here is to offer capable, mile-munching effortless Grand-Tourer performance with a degree of economy and lots of refinement. More than 35mpg is possible according to the latest fuel efficiency testing, and yet this is still an all-wheel drive, 155mph Audi performance car regardless.
There’s also more than enough space for four people and a boot with 535-litres of luggage space, or 1,390-litres if you only need to carry two people. Audi has, once again, delivered an interior space of exceptional quality, with beautiful leather upholstery and a modern, technologically driven design focus. A high level of equipment is provided as standard of course with yet further items available as optional extras or on higher trim grades. Beyond the interior though, hats have to come off for Audi here for the exterior too, as the S7 is a beautiful, long and sleek looking car that catches the eye wherever it happens to go.
