The ‘S’ mark on an Audi nameplate denotes a car of serious performance, and serious performance is exactly what the S8 saloon brings. As well as being Audi’s most luxurious car, the S8 saloon evolves the A8 into a serious mile-muncher, offering up a 565bhp all-wheel drive setup. The power is generated by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre petrol V8, and together with predictive active suspension, dynamic all wheel steering, and the quattro system, it offers up some truly impressive and exciting driving dynamics. 0-62mph takes just 3.8-seconds, while the top speed is limited to 155mph, as per German regulations.
The first Audi S8 saloon came out back in 1996, 2 years after the first generation A8 appeared. Like the modern S8 saloon, it also used a petrol powered V8, just 200cc larger than the current engine offered. Film buffs might recognise that generation of the S8 saloon from the famous (and very popular car film) Ronin.
