Posted 2 months agoSometimes driving can be a stressful experience can’t it? Jams, road closures, poor driving from fellow road users, unforeseen incidents, it can all be a little bit much. It’s on the more difficult drives of our lives that we often wish we were in something comforting, something effortless. Something like an Audi A8 saloon.
First introduced in 1994, the Audi A8 saloon is the Ingolstadt-based brand’s most luxurious offering, a large executive saloon with one mission - to make the driver’s and passenger’s lives as comfortable and as relaxing as possible. If you’re looking for peak Audi, you’re in the right place, and this car is considered a big rival to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-series, and even newer brands on the scene such as Genesis and its G70 and G80 models.
At the time of its launch back in 1994 it was a hugely innovative vehicle and the first mass-market car to feature an all-aluminum chassis. In 2022, the innovation continues with new technologies such as LED matrix headlights with intelligent control, a heads-up display, a whole host of driving safety systems including adaptive cruise control and swerve assist, and one of the most modern interiors on the market. Comfort, in large part, comes from the inclusion of an adaptive air suspension system with variable damping on all 4 wheels. It can be configured in the cockpit to be softer or firmer, as well as raise up to 25mm for easier vehicle access.
Under the bonnet will be your choice from 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder turbocharged engines that come in various outputs and can be fuelled by diesel or petrol power. Longer distance drivers may prefer the comfort and efficiency of the torquey diesel units, particularly the 50 TDI model with its 600Nm of torque and over 280bhp. Peak power hunters will opt for the 55 TSFI with around 335bhp on tap. Of course, being Audis, all A8 saloon models come with quattro all-wheel drive for extra grip, acceleration and stability in challenging conditions. All engines also come with an automatic gearbox for supreme driving comfort.
