Posted 3 years agoAudi has two monikers for its high-performance model, S and RS. While the RS badge is reserved for only the most extreme creations that the four rings offers, the S badge sits between the standard car – in this case the Q2 – and the RS models. S models are developed with Audi Sport, a division of the firm that operates motorsport and tuning aspects of the brand and the SQ2 certainly has some serious performance credentials.
Before we get onto that, a little more about the Q2 itself, though. The Q2 is one of the newest models in the Audi range, having been on UK roads since 2017. The SQ2 is as sporty as the Q2 range currently gets, and this model is powered by a 296bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine – a mainstay of performance cars right across the Volkswagen Group. It’s quick, very quick – 0-62mph will take you just 4.5-seconds which very impressive to say the least, and being a performance Audi it gets the legendary quattro all-wheel drive as standard, which provides the driver with masses of grip in the corners and impressive acceleration. A double-clutch automatic transmission pre-selects the next gear up, meaning near-instant gear changes similar to that you’d find in a real racing car, albeit smoother and more refined to fit in with luxurious and polished feel of a modern Audi product.
The raised height, quattro all-wheel drive system and potent 296bhp engine make the SQ2 a perfect all-weather performance machine, one that is unlikely to be phased by what Britain can throw at it. Inside though, the atmosphere is calm, laid back and refined with superb build quality and an attractive modern design that’s so easy to adapt to. Audi’s Virtual Cockpit system is especially impressive and doesn’t take long at all to get used to, a sign of just how good an infotainment system is is how intuitive it is, and this ticks all the boxes in that regard. In the boot there’s also 355-litres of boot space with the rear seats up, expanding to a round 1,000-litres when the rear seats are folded down.
Stylish and powerful with bags of grip, a beautifully fitted interior and a host of infotainment gadgets and driver assistance systems, the Audi SQ2 is a car you absolutely must look into to if you’re in the market for a hot new performance SUV.
