When the Bentley Bentayga is discussed, you often hear its origins explained with a much-told story about a Bentley customer event, and it goes a little something like this…
A few years ago, Bentley was hosting an event for its customers. At some point during the course of the event, Bentley executives wandered out into the car park to see what the firm’s customers had driven to the event in. They were expecting to see some Continental’s, maybe some Mulsanne’s, something in-brand. Instead, they found a sea of Range Rover’s. This was a challenge Bentley would not shy away from. As the story goes, as a result of this event, plans were drawn up to produce a world-beating SUV.
The result of the plans was the Bentayga. Upon its initial launch in 2016, the Bentayga was initially powered by the same 6.0-litre W12 engine that Bentley has made famous in its Continental GT car. The current W12 produces around 600bhp, put to the ground via intelligent all-wheel drive enabling optimum grip in tricky conditions. Over the last couple of years, the range has been expanded to include two 4.0-litre turbo V8’s – one petrol and one diesel powered. 2019 will see the arrival of the Bentayga hybrid which will combine a turbocharged V6 petrol engine along with electric motors.
Being a Bentley, the interior is a true work of art, one of the finest in the motoring world. The incredible quality goes from top to bottom, with beautiful leathers, wood and metals used in the construction. Every part of the Bentayga looks and feel like a million pounds, aside from a Rolls-Royce, this is as comfortable and as well made as any car on the road and it is an environment that oozes prestige, class and style.
There are few machines in the world that can rival the Bentley Bentayga for overall capability. It is a remarkable creation that has taken the SUV to new heights and laid down the gauntlet to every other luxury vehicle manufacturer. This is a superb demonstration of Bentley’s abilities as a manufacturer, and almost certainly the greatest SUV the world has yet seen.
