Posted 2 years agoExecutive cars don’t come much cooler than those with BMW badges, and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is a definite object of automotive desire – even if it is designed with families in mind. This BMW combines dynamism, style, elegance and practicality in one cleverly packaged car. Only slightly longer than a BMW 1 Series, the vehicle blends compact exterior dimensions with a spacious feel on the inside, making it ideally suited to the increasing challenges of urban mobility.
Practical shouldn't mean prosaic. While the Active Tourer is undoubtedly highly versatile, it is also distinctively styled. From the low-rise double kidney grille to the raked windscreen and defined bonnet, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has a low-slung, sporty look – typical of the brand that has produced it.
The tailgate, with its lowdown sill and broad opening, gives easy access to the load compartment, while air-deflecting aeroblades on either side of the rear window, along with a rear spoiler, add style while contributing to impressive aerodynamic efficiency.
The horizontally structured styling of the instrumentation and door panels gives the cabin an elegant feel and highlights the sense of roominess. At the same time, the BMW driver-focused design of the cockpit underscores the energetic character of the 2 Series Active Tourer.
The flexible cargo compartment's capacity can be expanded with a flat loading floor, and the split-folding rear backrest exemplifies this BMW's excellent everyday practicality. Versatility is enhanced further by a sliding back seat. This allows either knee room or luggage space to be increased as needed. What's more, its backrest can be adjusted to recline for the three rear seats or sat more upright for extra luggage space.
But what’s it like to drive? Well, a front-wheel-drive arrangement on the 2 Series Active Tourer balances comfort and agility. The chassis has been developed, with a long wheelbase and wide track, too. Add a very stiff, lightweight body with short overhangs, and a low centre of gravity, and you have a car that handles like a dream and sticks to the road like glue.
With electronically controlled dampers, the chassis characteristics can also be adjusted to different driving situations with a choice of a couple of different settings. This makes for even further improved ride comfort and driving dynamics.
