Posted 3 weeks agoIf we took a little trip back to the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show, we’d be lucky enough to see the covers taken off one of the most spectacular designs in BMW’s history. That was the event that the Munich-based company showed off its new 8 Series, a Grand Tourer that had taken more than 8 years to develop.
The 8 Series Coupe was produced from 1990 to 1999, and when it eventually went off-sale, there was a real sadness amongst car enthusiasts, as its shape, engine and presence was really something to behold. It took the best part of two decades, but in the summer of 2018, BMW finally brought the 8 Series coupe back, much to the delight of car aficionados worldwide.
The modern BMW 8 Series coupe is a muscular, highly stylish Grand Tourer, much like its illustrious predecessor, but with all the modern technologies expected of what is really the flagship performance car of one of the world’s biggest car brands. BMW 8 Series Coupe leasing has all this feel in abundance, so it’s no surprise the BMW 8 Series Coupe Lease Deals are a UK Synergy favourite.
A GT naturally has to have a suitable engine for those cross-continental drives, and here there’s a choice of 6 and 8-cylinder engines, with the headline unit being the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8. This engine features in the 850i model, boasting a 525bhp power output, put to the ground via BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system, and resulting in a 0-62mph sprint time of just 3.7-seconds. If that wasn’t quite quick enough for you, in the M8 high-performance model, that output goes up to just under 600 horsepower.
The V8 petrol engine scores pretty well as far as efficiency goes, but there is a diesel engine available too - the 840d. This still promises a sub-5-second 0-62mph time but also has been proven to provide fuel efficiency in the 45mpg+ region. A happy performance/efficiency compromise.
