Posted 3 weeks agoWhile the ‘M4’ badge might be something new, this is a car which a much richer history than you may know. The M4’s lineage can be traced to the M3, a car that has been setting the motoring world alight for more than three decades now, but in 2014 the coupe version of the M3 morphed into the M4, giving us the car that we have today.
The BMW M4 is a fast, nimble high-performance version of the 4-series coupe. Already a very accomplished machine, BMW’s M division increases its potential even further, turning the 4-series into a sports car yet retaining its capacity to seat passengers and behave sedately when required.
Lying at the heart of the BMW M4 is one of the finest 6-cylinder engines ever produced. The twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six appears in a few BMW models, but it is in the M4 where it is allowed to truly spreads its wings, producing a beefy 426bhp – 100% of which is sent to the rear wheels in true BMW style. Performance is undoubtedly fierce, with the M4 easily reaching an electronically restricted top speed of 155mph, 62 of which you’ll see in just 4.3-seconds if you’re starting from a standstill. It’s not just about the speed though, the engine provides a delightful growling soundtrack that encourages the driver to push further to enjoy it to the maximum.
Being exclusively rear-wheel drive, motoring enthusiasts rave about the handling characteristics of the M4 coupe, praising its balance and tail-happy tendencies on corner exit, yet the M4 can also be driven calmly and carefully thanks to excellent electronic driving aids and adjustable driving modes. Driver’s of previous generations of M3 and M4 models will feel right at home in a car that, while being undoubtedly a modern machine, still references past generation in its style and feel.
