For a long time, the luxury car market has been relatively barren of a French twist on the luxury segment, but when DS Automobiles became a standalone marque in 2015 (breaking away from its former place as a Citroen off-shoot) there was finally a bit of Gallic flavour in luxury vehicles again. It’s from those areas that DS takes inspiration, and the DS 9 lease is the third car in the DS range (following the DS 3 and DS 7) to arrive in the UK. It’s a rival for the likes of the BMW 5-series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class or Jaguar XF and has a stunning design inspired by the French luxury industries.
If you’ve seen the inside of the DS 7 already, the DS 9’s dashboard layout will be familiar with its large touchscreen infotainment system, squarish steering wheel, and the presence of many triangles in the design language. On the bonnet of some DS 9 car leasing deals, a metal stripe inspired by luxury watches gives a truly unique appearance to the car.
The engine is a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and can be paired with an electric battery, so yes, this car is a plug-in hybrid and can manage up to 30-miles on that power alone. Power output is 222bhp, plenty enough for impressive performance and overtaking potential. In some markets, an all-wheel drive version with an extra 100bhp or so is available, but it remains to be seen if this will be made available to UK customers.
