Posted 2 years agoIf the idea of a thundering V8 and the wind in your hair sounds appealing, then you’ll want to read on. The car we have here is the Ford one of the most evocative and romantic names in motoring history, and this particular model is the convertible, a car designed for long, lazy drives on never-ending summer days.
If that idea alone hasn’t filled you with excitement then there’s also the fact that the Mustang is a car packed with history. The first Mustang went on sale in 1964 and it has been on sale ever since, but not in the UK. British drivers had to wait until 2015 for Ford to launch the Mustang as a global car, so you’ve only been able to order a Mustang here at home in the last 5 years, making it a relatively rare sight on UK roads, though not for long.
There’s no great secret to the recipe for a Ford Mustang. It’s a simple, handsome machine with a fantastic image, characterful engine and attractive price point. It’s a car that you never mistake for something else, its long bonnet and muscular haunches are not often seen, but never forgotten. This convertible version of the Mustang is an ideal weekend machine, perfect for 2 people out and about, and though you may know it as a muscle car, it is perfect over long distances and much more comfortable than its looks suggest.
The big talking point when it comes to this car is the grumbling V8 engine. It’s a 5.0-litre unit that puts out a beefy 444bhp. Truth be told, engines like this probably aren’t going to be around forever now, so driving one is a rare treat, and incredibly good fun. Of course, an engine like this is not built to be a fuel-saver, and that can turn some people off. Ford has a solution to this though, a 2.3-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder ‘Ecoboost’ engine that produces 287bhp. This engine is lighter and less than half the size of the V8, but it is a more modern unit and gives the Mustang great pace and it is more than understandable that this appeals more to some Synergy customers. A 6-speed manual gearbox is provided as standard, though a 10-speed automatic can be fitted as an option.
