If you’re not exactly sure what a “Shooting Brake” is, allow us to offer a brief explanation. A Shooting Brake is a style of car that originated way back in the very beginnings of the 20th century. Originally, this body style was designed to aid in the transportation of shooting parties and their equipment, hence the name. In the 21st century, a Shooting Brake is perhaps best thought of as a vehicle that blends design elements from both a traditional estate car, and a sporty coupe. It offers a more practical shape (and usually, additional storage) but doesn’t sacrifice styling to do so. Often, these cars are beautiful to look at and stand out on the road, making them highly desirable. This can definitely be seen in the new Genesis G70 Shooting Brake.
Despite being a new company, Genesis has some of the best automotive designers and engineers on the planet working for it. The South Korean firm hired staff with brands like Bentley and Lamborghini on their CVs, and the Hyundai-owned luxury car brand has a whole stable of stunning new luxury cars to show off.
For the new G70 Shooting Brake, Genesis has provided three engine options consisting of one diesel and one petrol engine with two different power outputs. For the petrol engine - a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo - outputs of 194 or 241bhp are offered, while the sole diesel option is a 2.2-litre turbo, with 197bhp on tap. All engines here are offered with rear-wheel drive, for a balanced, sporty driving feel on the road, and all engines come with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard that features shift-by-wire technology and paddle shifters.
Offering a more practical body style for families, the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is still a luxurious vehicle with Nappa leather and aluminum trim, gorgeous interior design inspired by Korean architecture, and an extensive equipment list all present, as expected.
