Building a new supermini is a hard task for car manufacturers. This corner of the market is ultra-competitive, with the likes of the Volkswagen Polo, Nissan Micra and Ford Fiesta going head-to-head to win over Synergy customers. With such big names giving it all they’ve got, it’s often easy to forget the likes of the Hyundai i20 lease deals in the UK.
The first Hyundai i20 was launched back in 2008, but the car is now into its second generation and it received a facelift early in 2018 to keep it fresh and up to date. It gets power from petrol engines – as with many cars now, diesel is no longer an option – a 1.0-litre ‘T-GDI’ in 98 or 118bhp outputs, or a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder with around 74bhp. A 6-speed manual is the standard gearbox, though a 7-speed ‘DCT’ automatic can be chosen as an optional extra on some models.
All Hyundai i20 leasing models are now 5-door, having previously had a 3-door coupe option and a higher sitting SUV-lookalike version. As with other Hyundai models, space has been expertly managed and the i20 is spacious in the front and rear for passengers – a benefit of its long wheelbase. A large boot of 301-litres is also there for your cargo needs, expanding to 1,017-litres with the 60/40 splitting rear seating folded down.
Equipment is generous in the Hyundai i20 car lease range and the top-spec ‘Premium SE’ stands out as reflecting particularly good value, given the range of equipment included. Heated front seats, a panoramic glass sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation with smartphone integration. This is all on top of the usual equipment you’d expect to find in a well-equipped machine, as well as extensive electronic safety aids. An absence of a optional equipment list on this model gives a real indication of the levels of kit provided.
