Hyundai I30 Tourer – Reliable, powerful and spacious.
Hyundai is a brand that has become more and more popular here in the UK over the last few years, and the car we have here – the Hyundai i30 Tourer – is the South Korean firm’s take on the small estate car. The i30 Tourer rivals the likes of the Ford Focus estate and Volkswagen Golf estate, and more and more Synergy customer are opting to lease an i30 over those famous rivals, but why?
The i30 first appeared back in 2007, but the car is now into its third generation and has only really been gathering momentum in the last few years. Hyundai really had its work cut out when it decided to make major moves into the European market, so much so that the company decided to open a European base of operations in order to get as much European feel into its products as possible. The company decided to open that base in Rüsselsheim, Germany and it was a wise move, with the plant churning out more than a few successful products since – one of which is the i30 Tourer.
For the time being, you still have the choice of a diesel engine with i30 Tourer as Hyundai still offers a diesel engine - a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder ‘CRDi’ turbocharged engine boasting 108bhp and available with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic gearbox. There are also petrol options, of course – a 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre ‘T-GDi’ with either 118bhp or 138bhp. Like the diesel engine, these two units also have the same gearbox options available to them.
Unlike with the Ford Focus, there’s no ‘hot’ version of this estate-bodied version of the i30, meaning no ‘N’ model can be selected in this body style. However, the boot space is at least very impressive, listed at 602-litres with the rear seats in play, expanding to 1,650-litres with them folded down.
Hyundai offers a selection of 4 trim levels for the i30 Tourer. Top spec ‘Premium SE’ trim looks particularly tempting as it’s available at a very good price for the level of equipment offered, some of which includes luxuries such as heated seating and a heated steering wheel. In that model, you’ll also find Hyundai’s 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, blind spot detection and even more than we can list here.
Equipment levels are generous across the i30 Tourer range, a Hyundai hallmark. Hyundai has gone continuously from strength-to-strength over the last few years and with the extremely competent and thoughtfully designed i30 Tourer, the South Korean company has yet another hit on its hands.
