Posted 7 years agoIt’s big, it’s bold and it’s British. This is the Jaguar XF Sportbrake, one of the most enjoyable estate cars you can lease from us here at Synergy. Yes, Jaguar has designed this practical version of the XF to fit in with busy family lifestyles or those with active hobbies, but it is still 100% a Jaguar, and that means that out on the road it simply must perform like a true big cat.
Despite its big size, the XF Sportbrake is still the Jaguar you’d expect it to be, with quick steering helping it show off its nimbleness in corners, something few large estate cars like this can claim to do. Its construction is mostly made up of lightweight aluminium parts, so at just under 1,800kg it is perhaps not as heavy as you’d expect it to be. Those weighing up an SUV alongside this XF Sportbrake should be made aware that the Sportbrake carries a noticeable handling advantage over the vast majority of those cars, so if you enjoy driving then this is likely to be the machine that impresses you more behind the wheel.
Of course, this is still an estate car though. It’s comfortable and highly practical with tons of space in the cabin and in the boot, where 565-litres is available to stash goods in. With the rear seats folded down this expands to a mighty 1,700-litres, perfect for those occasional trips to the garden centre or recycling facilities.
The engines for the XF Sportbrake are all 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged units that go by the name ‘Ingenium’. They can be fuelled by either petrol or diesel and range in power from around 150 to 300bhp. Depending on your choice of engine, your transmission will either be a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic. If power and torque is really at the top of your wish list, then the special ‘S’ model with its 3.0-litre V6 engine is the one for you, but it is considerably more expensive than the rest of the model range.
For trim levels, Jaguar currently has 5 – the same ones you’ll find in the XF saloon – Prestige, Portfolio, R-Sport, Chequered Flag and S. Satellite navigation, smartphone integration, leather seating and cruise control is standard equipment across the range, while R-Sport and Chequered Flag add a sportier look and Portfolio includes a Meridian sound system among other additional features.
