JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE
The showcase product from this famous American name, the Jeep Grand Cherokee drives the off-road brand onto more luxurious ground.
If you know your car history, you’ll be aware that Jeep is a brand with real pedigree, with the company essentially born out of the need of a US Army reconnaissance vehicle in the Second World War. The machine built for the job was the 1941 Willys Jeep, and from those darkest of times emerged a practical, tough little machine that people quickly realised could be a sales hit in post-war America.
The direct descendant of the Willys MA and MB models can be leased from us here at Synergy – it’s called the Jeep Wrangler, but if what if you’re looking for something a little more focused on the modern comforts of motoring? Well, enter the Grand Cherokee - Jeep’s biggest and poshest SUV.
It’s a vehicle that has been around for a while now, having first appeared in the early 1990’s and the currently vehicle is the 4th generation of the car produced since. A spacious 5-seater, the Grand Cherokee is still a highly competent off-road machine, featuring ‘Quadra-Trac’ active all-wheel drive with ‘Selec-Terrain’ and the ‘Quadra-Lift’ air suspension system that features five different height settings. Power for those wheels comes from a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, packing around 245bhp, enough for a 0-62mph time of just over 8-seconds and a top speed of 126mph. The engine lives with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
Recently, Jeep published its fuel efficiency under the new WLTP testing regime and gave a score of 28.8mpg. Currently, the company has only released the CO2 emissions tested under the old NEDC testing procedure which lists the output as 208g/km.
Just 2 trim levels are currently available with the Grand Cherokee – name ‘Overland’ and ‘Summit’. A strong standard equipment list includes air suspension, leather seating and trim, an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth, DAB digital radio and smartphone integration, a digital instrument cluster and a Harmon Kardon sound system.
A classy alternative to other premium SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee showcases Jeep’s off-road engineering prowess whilst still maintaining the levels of comfort and luxury expected of a modern SUV.
