SUVs are the most popular type of car on the current market and look set to be for quite some time yet. The World’s gone crazy for the Sports Utility Vehicle and as a result of that, manufactures are launching new ones all the time. Kia’s latest is the Stonic, a car that goes for customisation a youthful vibe, looking to appeal to younger customers. Powering this little SUV are a choice of 2 petrol engine and a lone diesel. The choice between the two petrol units is between the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol and a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder. Both engines are turbocharged, with the former 3-cylinder the most popular choice with Synergy customers to date. Drivers covering longer distances have the option of the diesel – a 1.6-litre turbo. All cars are front-wheel driven and come with a manual 6-speed gearbox.
As the Stonic is a fairly new car, there’s a special edition, named ‘First Edition’, funnily enough. This model gets a host of extra gadgets and equipment to celebrate the launch of the new Kia Stonic lease deals that includes – a touchscreen navigation system, smartphone integration, Bluetooth, cruise and climate control, parking sensors and a reversing camera, blind spot monitoring system and lane keeping assist. Kia’s certainly gone to town on the First Edition, leaving Synergy customers with only colours and personalisation to ponder over. The only other model in the Stonic range is the ‘2’ which still offers smartphone integration, air conditioning and Bluetooth but doesn’t feature inbuilt satellite navigation.
To drive, Synergy customers should expect a positive and engaging ride. The vast majority of SUVs are now very good to drive and do well to counter the effects of body-roll in corners. The small size of the Stonic married to improvements in SUV dynamics across the range should lead to the Stonic behaving much like a normal hatchback, but with a raised driving position. Storage space is similar to a hatchback too, with 352-litres of loadable space available in the boot with the seats up, this expands to 1,155-litres with the rear seating folded flat.
The Kia Stonic is a modern car hit straight of the middle of the bat. It’s an SUV with strong equipment levels, efficient engines and options to personalise. That is pretty much the perfect recipe for the current car market.
