Posted 4 years agoFirst introduced in 1989, the Lexus ES is Japan’s answer to some of the world’s finest executive saloons.
The Lexus ES is the joint-oldest nameplate from Lexus, having been one of the firm’s launch vehicles – alongside the flagship LS - back in 1989. Over the years it has evolved and moved with the times but has always guaranteed its driver a refined and comfortable luxury driving experience.
This is now the 7th generation of Lexus ES, and the first time that the car has been offered in European markets, having originally only been produced for its native Japanese market and the most popular Lexus market - North America. Here in Europe it has replaced the old ‘GS’ model and arrives having racked up well over 2-million sales since its launch back in the closing act of the 1980’s.
Like all Lexus models, the ES is powered by hybrid technology – a combination of a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol and an electric motor. This unit is joined to a ‘CVT’ automatic gearbox and pushes out just 100g/km of CO2 while achieving a maximum of 53mpg. It’s a very smooth unit that manages to blend the performance of the 2 separate sources almost seamlessly, with the electric motor helping to get the car moving before the petrol engine kicks in and adds the majority of the power. This system works brilliantly in luxury cars like this, where a low noise levels and refinement are key to a successful product.
