2019 sees Mercedes-Benz introduces a new generation of its flagship SUV, the GLS.
Mercedes-Benz is the world’s best-selling luxury car brand, so it won’t surprise you to learn that it is no stranger to quality and class. Among the firm’s flagship offerings is the GLS, a full-size SUV launched back in 2006 that has demonstrated the very best that Stuttgart-based firm can offer in this class of vehicle.
In 2019, Mercedes-Benz launches its new generation of GLS, a car that has never had it harder when it comes to rivals – it competes with the likes of the BMW X7, Audi Q7 and the famous Range Rover. The name ‘GLS’ gives you some indication of how Mercedes ranks this car, with the ‘G’ in the name meaning ‘geländewagen’ (German for ‘off-road vehicle’) but the ‘S’ representing the S-Class, the highest tier of Mercedes-Benz cars. Put it together and you have a name that essentially tells you that this is the very best off-road vehicle the company can make.
Much like the smaller GLE, the GLS is an imposing, strong looking machine that has an authoritarian presence, dominating the location it finds itself in. Synergy customers looking for an SUV that really stands out will appreciate its ability to impose itself without looking like it is trying too hard to do so. This is dominance with a degree of elegance, a winning combination for any SUV.
Anyone stepping into a new GLS will have very high-expectations of the interior and the GLS doesn’t disappoint. It’s luxurious and high-tech, with twin 12.3-inch screens dominating the dashboard and being the flagship SUV of the Mercedes brand, you get exceptional material quality and an elegance that Mercedes is famous for.
The new GLS is a 7-seater SUV but can be selected as a more luxurious 6-seater with 2 separate seats replacing what would usually be a ‘bench’ style seat in the second row. Thanks to the GLS’s substantial size, the room in the 3rd row seats is good enough for adults – they’re even heated too - and when the seating isn’t in use, the GLS’s seating can be folded down to provide a gigantic 2,400-litres of load space.
Currently only one engine will be made available to British customers, but a mild hybrid petrol is expected to follow in the future along with a AMG-tuned performance engine. For now, powering the GLS is a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine producing 326bhp while pushing out 201g/km of CO2 back into the atmosphere. According to fuel-efficiency testing, mid-30’s in miles-per-gallon should be achievable, which isn’t too bad for a car as substantial as this. All GLS models also come with ‘4MATIC’ all-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
A lengthy list of standard equipment and options will also be made available to Synergy customers, so contact our friendly and professional team directly to discover more about this top-end luxury SUV.
