One of the secrets to the Porsche 911 Coupe’s success was the car’s distinctive layout. Unusually for a sports car, the engine was mounted over the rear wheels, giving it a distinctive ‘pendulum’ feel at the rear axal. Since 1963, Porsche has released a long line of 911 Coupe’s and the firm passed 1,000,000 units produced in 2017. In the engine compartment, a traditional horizontally opposed ‘flat six’ 6-cylinder engine remains the unit of choice, but this engine is a modern twin-turbo variant and comes in a range of outputs depending on the model selected.
Speaking of models, the new 911 Coupe is currently offered as Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera S and Carrera 4S. The presence of ‘4’ denotes an all-wheel drive model, and the ‘S’ indicates a higher level of performance. In the future, higher performance Turbo and GT3 RS models are expected to follow, but they normally appear a couple of years after the initial new 911 Coupe model.
