You might not be aware what a “vRS” is, but if we said to you “GTI” or “M” or “RS”, you’d probably get the idea. vRS is Skoda’s sporty sub-brand, and its vehicles are known only as “RS” in Europe, standing for “Rally Sport”, something the marque has a lot of experience in competing in. Now, the vRS badge is used for hot versions of Skoda’s cars, much the same as Volkswagen and its GTI badge. The latest vehicle to get the vRS treatment is the new Enyaq, a family SUV that runs purely on electric power.
Skoda’s new Enyaq was first revealed in September 2020, and was originally conceived as a practical, zero-emission family vehicle. There is presumably, however, a group of engineers within Skoda who like things to be a little bit naughtier, and immediately after the Enyaq’s reveal, this group started planning how to make the car more sporty and more appealing to those with performance on the mind. Their results are this, the Enyaq vRS coupe, with its sleeker profile and far sportier body styling and colouring.
The Enyaq vRS coupe is still very much a family car though, performance hasn’t resulted in the sacrifice of practicality, that’s simply not the Skoda way. Inside you’ll find bags of space for all the things a family needs, as well as plenty of head and knee room too. Practical touches can be found all over the car, something Skoda refers to as “simply clever”, so expect to encounter useful little aids right across the Enyaq vRS.
Usually, the SUV version of the Enyaq features a 339-mile maximum range (according to the latest WLTP testing procedures) but the vRS model has that reduced to 323-miles. Despite the reduction, it still ranks it among the largest ranges you can currently find in electric vehicles here in the UK. Power is up though, the twin-motor set up yields 295bhp resulting in a 0-62mph time of just 6.5 seconds. In a normal Enyaq, power varies between models from 177 to 261bhp, so drivers should notice a significant increase in performance here.
