Subaru Business & Personal Car Leasing Offers

Strength, power and the ability to take on whatever gets thrown at you – that’s Subaru.

Formed in 1953, Subaru has a history longer than most people think. To many people here in the UK Subaru is famous for its motorsport heritage and performances in the World Rally Championships of the 1990’s and early 2000’s, where drivers such as Scotland’s Colin McRae made Subaru a household name. The name Subaru comes from the Japanese name for a cluster of six stars in the Taurus constellation and the name itself means ‘to govern’ or ‘gather together’. In the West, Subaru is known more commonly as Pleiades, and is visible to the naked eye both in the sky at night and on the cars Subaru produces as the brand’s logo.

Subaru is one of those brands where it’s difficult to really say clearly what its goals are. On the one hand, it produces a couple of SUVs – the XV and the Forester – but then it also makes two sports cars – the BRZ and the iconic WRX STi. So, what exactly sets Subaru apart?

Well, there are a few features that Subaru is well known for and it has helped the brand attract a hardcore base of followers who swear by the products it produces. For a start, Subaru is known for its use of all-wheel drive and powerful ‘boxer’ engines. This has always traditionally helped it become a favourite in rural areas where these two key features combine with Subaru’s famously strong-engineering to make an excellent vehicle for areas with harsh climates and difficult roads.

For the enthusiast, the outgoing WRX STi – now in its ‘Final Edition’ – is a throwback to the days of Subaru’s rallying, an all-wheel drive, 300bhp four-seater sports car that drives quite like nothing else. There’s also the lightweight, rear-wheel drive BRZ developed in conjunction with Toyota – an affordable sports car full of driving thrills.

Subaru Fact: Subaru has been producing ‘Boxer’ engines – named because firing pistons punch horizontally instead of vertically – since 1965.
