Have you ever walked past somebody in the street, squinted a little and swore that you recognised them or knew them from somewhere else? You check your glasses and scratch your head, but you can’t quite place them. Well, you may get this sort of feeling from the new Suzuki Across, a new hybrid SUV that bears more than a passing resemblance to another hybrid SUV.
The Suzuki Across arrived in the UK back in the late summer of 2020. Fundamentally, it is exactly the same vehicle as the Toyota RAV4 and is built by Toyota.
Underneath, you’ll find the famous Toyota hybrid powertrain that is featured in many vehicles now, providing low emissions of just 22g/km and excellent fuel efficiency. It’s a combination of a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and a battery with an electric motor. The result is, and this may surprise you, a power output of 302bhp and a 0-62mph sprint time of just over 6-seconds. That’s pretty fast, and it also has all-wheel drive and a CVT automatic gearbox. It’s also a plug-in hybrid, capable of running up to 45 miles on electric power alone.
So, there’s a great combination of environmentally friendly efficiency and rather sporting performance, a true benefit of modern hybrid technology.
There’s also a pretty impressive specification. There’s just the one Suzuki Across trim at the time of writing, but you get lots of goodies such as heated seats and a heated steering wheel, a kick gesture boot opening, 19-inch alloy wheels, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an electronic parking brake and a host of safety systems including a pre-collision warning system.
This comfortable, highly efficient but fast hybrid SUV is a real winner, and the Suzuki Across should be on the watch list of anyone looking for a vehicle in this category.
